Richardson's Ranch Field Trip Report
Labor Day Weekend, 2013
By Capt. Steve
0900 Saturday Capt. Steve & Barb Seekins head south for Joe Cota’s ROCK CASTLE in Lebanon, OR.
Joe was out of town, but his family took good care of us.
Joe Cota's Geode
With new rocks, we headed east and upward to 6500 ft elevation Pine Mountain Campground and three Telescopes located 26 miles southeast of Burns.
Pine Mountain Observatory
Danielle & Tony Leckband with children Clayton & Nina linked up with us at the campground.
We had a thorough Astronomy briefing by UO staffers and telescope views with the accompaniment of at least 20 shooting stars that night along with great campfire cooking.
Sunday morning revelie and down the mountain. The Leckbands went direct to Richardsons Ranch.
Captain Steve awaits Barb at Richardson's Ranch
Capt. Steve & Barb went to Richardsons Ranch via Peterson Ranch of mosaic rock art. The Thunder egg dig was okay. Good specimens of Geodes, opals and other rocks were bought. We are looking forward to what the rock cuts reveal in the geodes and slabs from the tumbler.
